In 1942 Isle Royale was enlarged by the addition of much of Passage Island, the Siskiwit Islands Bird Reservation, and "any submerged land within four and one-half miles of the shore line of Isle Royale and the immediately surrounding islands."! The Park Service was steadily adding to the Ocean Strip and the Queets Corridor in Olympic. More important was the proclamation of jackson Hole National Monument in 1943 and its final addition to Grand Teton in 1950.
