ABSTRACT
RECREATION ON RESERVOIR PROJECTS The Boulder Canyon Project was authorized in December 1928. In June 1936, $10,000 was appropriated for administration, protection, and maintenance of the recreational activities, and the next year $45,000 was granted for these purposes.I In November 1940 the Bureau of Reclamation requested the Park Service to study the scenic, scientific, and recreational resources of the Colorado Basin as part of a comprehensive plan for the utilization of the water resources of the region, and on January 27, 1941, Secretary Ickes approved the request. The work was done by the Branch of Lands of the Service, headed by Conrad
L. Wirth, with Frederick Law Olmsted as consultant, and the report was completed in 1946-an excellent report.2
