ABSTRACT
OVERVIEW European traditions carried over into America with each boat-load of colonists. Throughout America's first two hundred years intellectual ideas and develop ments in Europe, rooted in theology and religious devotions, reached America and influenced the laws, customs and schooling practices of the American colonists. Colonial schooling was primarily religious schooling.
