Since learning has been acknowledged as a natural phenomenon of adult life (Tough 1979, Knox 1977, Knowles 1975), it was appropriate to use a research approach that investigated and described the phenomenon in its natural state. The naturalistic paradigm, or set of assumptions, were selected for this research study given the nature of the research question, that is, explore the phenomenon of learning in the life of female entrepreneurs. This paradigm consists of a set of assumptions for viewing the social world.
