ABSTRACT
It was still dark when the telephone rang. Although darkness was common during January mornings in Minneapolis, it also was early-7 o'clock. Just before the winter break, I had resigned my teaching position, effective in June. I was unsure of what I wanted to do, but I knew I did not want to teach secondary mathematics any longer-four years was enough. Although I was interested in education, I was not a particularly good teacher.
