ABSTRACT
It was a long time ago, but the memory of that relationship is as fresh as today. My first mentor was the most powerful and important influence on my life and my career.
His name was Arnold Lohse, Mr. Lohse to me even today. He was the teacher in a one-room school of 40-plus children in rural Michigan. As my teacher from fifth through seventh grade, he had a profound impact on my life.
