Introduction

This book advocates a systems model of social work, and does so for the following reasons:

1. The systems model enables you to pull together much of what you have found useful in many current models of social work practice (see Chapter 5). In fact, a systems approach should help increase the sensitivity of your practice because systems can: (1) augment other models of practice, and (2) give you tools for linking micro and macro modes of intervention.
