ABSTRACT

It is also difficult to assess the benefits of visits for preventive care. The majority of pediatric visits are for well care and include immunizations, physical exams, and parental guidance. While immunizations are extremely important, a substantial literature shows that few physical abnormalities are detected during routine well-child physicals, (US Congress, Office of Tech nology Assessment, 1988) and that on average physicians spend less than 1.5 minutes per visit with parents of young children (Reisinger and Bires (1980)).
