ABSTRACT

XIII, XV and XVIII). The formal side is developed too often independently of the energetic side: grammar versus games. In therapy one must often go back to very early years to find a symbolic bridge between the energetic and formal aspects, and re-educate the patient by means of aesthetic, imaginative and social methods neglected in 'normal' education. Until the vessel is shaped, therapy of emotion may often require suppression or release of the energetic aspect for the sake of the container. Sometimes this alone can save a formless psyche from being destroyed by its emotion. Emotion is not always good nor always bad; it can either kill or cure, and it can only be 'dosed' {Chapter XVIll) in respect to the quality of the formal organization of the psyche.
