ABSTRACT
While most of us live in countries frequently described as democracies, there are many different conceptualisations of democracy. In Chapter 1, we outlined how political theory could be helpful in developing a framework for investigating regulation. In this chapter, we make no attempt to discuss comprehensively or in depth the variety of contributions within democratic theory. However, it is useful to draw on some theoretical strands which are relevant to the regulation of medicines.
