Teacher in Role (TiR) is the key to developing the educational potential of drama. However, our experience through in-service training and working with training teachers on teaching practice has indicated some resistance to using the strategy, usually by teachers who haven't had the opportunity to see it working or haven't been given a chance to try it out. They are initially put off by the word 'role'. A common response is, 'Oh, I couldn't do role-play, I can't act.'
