ABSTRACT
Strict comparisons are difficult since it is impossible to separate the social from the benevolent in such activities as Rotary Clubs, masonic orders or hospital circles, which American middle-class society seems to proliferate. Nevertheless, it will become abundantly clear in the following paragraphs that English husbands and wives are unenterprising stay-at-homes compared with their American counterparts.
