Allofthesemenwerehumorists,andyetallofthemperformed prodigiesofindubitablewisdom.Andcontrariwise,manyanundeniablepundithashadhisguffaw.Huxley,ifhehadnotbeenthegreatest intellectualduellistofhisage,mighthavebeenitsgreatestwit.And Beethoven,aftersoaringtotheheightsoftragedyinthefirStmovementoftheFifthSymphony,turnedtothedivinefooling,theirresistiblebull-f1ddlingofthescherzo.
