ABSTRACT

John Albert Macy (1877-1932), author and critic, edited Helen Keller's The Story of My Life ( 1903) and wrote a life of Edgar Allan Poe (1907). The Spirit of American Literature established him as an important critic. He was subsequently literary editor of the Boston Herald (1913-14) and the Nation (1922-3). Among his other books are Socialism in America (1915), The Critical Game (1922), and The Story of the World's Literature (1925).
