Itisnotalwaysclearwhetherpractitionerethnographyisadvocatedtoservethesamefunctionas,andtoreplace,conventional ethnography;butmanyoftheargumentsusedtosupportitcarry oneorotherorbothoftheseimplications.6InthischapterIwant toexaminethesearguments.Thereseemtobethreemajorones: 1thatconventionalresearchisirrelevanttopractice; 2thatitisinvalidbecauseitlacksaninsiderperspective;and 3thatitisexploitative.
