ABSTRACT
The central role of the Greek philosopher studying nature was to seek out causes, why things are the way they are and work the way they do, from the stars down to domestic animals. As the previous chapter will have shown, Aristotle is interested in the causes of the parts of animals because they show the soul in action. The heart of any animal was for Aristotle far and away the most important organ. What counts for Aristotle as a good answer to the causes of the parts of animals is discussed.
