ABSTRACT

Melanie Klein’s discovery of the unconscious internal world supports the likelihood of a direct link between internal worlds, a deep level of the mind in which mental states are experienced in a bodily way. Song-and-dance, operating on a sensory level and producing direct physical effects, is a natural mode of communication between one unconscious internal world and another. Song-and-dance communication links the concrete, unconscious, internal world of one individual to the community of other internal worlds (other unconscious minds) to form social groups in which individuals are bound together by psychological forces far deeper than those of mere social or instrumental advantage.
