ABSTRACT

This chapter embraces the topic of grief theories and the traditional Chinese culture on grief. The early theories of grief are described first, followed by an argument for the meaning making theory with two frequently used theories, namely the dual-process theory and attachment theory after brief overviews of the latter two theories. Lastly, meaning system in the traditional culture of China is deliberated, and contemporary concerns on the traditional culture follow. To sum up, this chapter deepens the understanding on grief and bereavement from the perspective of meaning making theory and traditional Chinese culture.
