ABSTRACT

Hamps’s story exists as a space log, in which the relationship between Hamp and Benjamin resides. Hamp’s story is told against a meditation on research ethics, sex positivity, and proliferated data generation (the chapter is composed of interview transcripts, Snapchat exchanges, text messages, Instagram messages, field observations, and David Bowie lyrics). Benjamin constructs the chapter to depict how researchers can collapse timelines and realities into succinct, impressionistic rendering of full, bodily life. Hamp’s story is atmospheric, hypnotic, and kinetic; Benjamin focuses on capturing movement and provides a defense of his methods for capturing Hamp’s being.
