ABSTRACT

The prelude to Queer Campus Climate: An Ethnographic Fantasia examines the history of queer studies within the field of higher education (generally). The prelude includes an outline and defense of the theories and methodologies that informed the generation of stories found within the subsequent chapters. Benjamin expounds on the value of applying queer philosophy to a post-qualitative paradigm, which contrasts the constructivist and post-positivist research dominating the field of queer studies in higher education. Benjamin explains the ways in which readers of ethnography may engage the work, since the text makes extensive use of footnotes, makes suggestions for sonic accompaniments, and encourages non-linear reading. The prelude closes with a brief illustration of the context of the study and the participants whose lives and experiences are shared.
