ABSTRACT
As of 2016, a total of 313 women have served in the U.S. Congress since Jeanette Rankin was first elected in 1916; 278 of those in the U.S. House of Representatives. If all 278 women served together, they would make up just over half (63 percent) of the total 435 seats in the House. 1
