ABSTRACT
The World Bank defines poverty as living on one U.S. dollar per day or less. By this definition, some 1.2 billion people are poor. Raise the limit to two dollars per day, and two-thirds of the planet—over 4 billion people—live in poverty. Seventy percent of these are women.
