ABSTRACT
Malam Harouna Issa, the marabout whom we met earlier, happily agreed to meet for a follow-up interview six months after my initial visit. I organized the meeting in Maradaoua quartier in Maradi-ville to discuss some long-standing questions that had arisen during the individual interviews. I wanted to ask about migrants' obligations to send money back to their villages, behavior during periods of drought, and some underlying causes of periodic crises in the region.
