ABSTRACT

David Landes, a well-known Harvard historian, wrote an article on Haiti some years back, in which he described the Marine invasion—the Wilson intervention—as very beneficial to Haiti. In fact, it had a devastating effect on the society, dismantling the Parliamentary system, and killing thousands of people, forcing them to accept laws that let U.S. corporations buy up the land and turn it into plantations, reintroducing virtual slavery. It also left a military force to attack the people—it was monstrous! This from a leading historian—but that’s not ideological. On the other hand, if you tell the truth, that’s ideological.
