ABSTRACT
570The smaller European states of the Mediterranean region (Andorra, Liechtenstein, Malta, and Monaco are not considered here because of their limited impact on international affairs) shared many of the same problems as did their northern neighbors. Yet these smaller states experienced a lower level of industrial development and economic prosperity than the states discussed in the previous chapter; for that reason alone, as well as for others, they faced great challenges in the years after World War II.
