ABSTRACT
The predominant conception of science has been one of the accumulation of impartial, objective knowledge of nature by disinterested scientists. This conception is associated with an image of science as conflictless and as the reflection of natural reality whereas ideology is seen as the distorted representation of reality resulting from the interests of dominant groups.
