ABSTRACT
When, on September 1, 1939, Hitler started the campaign against Poland, it was clear to everybody with any political judgment that this attack would result in a world war. Hitler did not believe this, for he relied on information fed to him by his Foreign Minister, Joachim von Ribbentrop—information that ran contrary to all facts.
