ABSTRACT
Hilda arrived in the free trade zone of La Romana in the Dominican Republic as a young woman with two daughters aged one and two. At 14, she had married a much older man, but he drank and mistreated her, so she left him and went to live with her sister in La Romana, Hilda started working almost immediately in the free trade zone in several factories, but has worked for about ten years in a blouse factory managed by a Cuban.
