ABSTRACT
Freud based his theoretical constructions on a series of patients with the diagnosis of hysterical neurosis, formulated his theory of the Oedipus complex as the core of neurotic illness, and specified as the basis of the psychoanalytic method of treatment the interpretation of the meaning of the patient’s free associations and repressed, immature sexual phantasies.
