ABSTRACT
On the road to discovering what sort of moral practice psychoanalysis is, we have inspected other forms of influencing people. Each time we have addressed a particular method of influence, we have found a complex, interwoven pattern of technical effectiveness and ethical validities. The psychoanalytic practice of interpretation is no exception, and psychoanalysis veers between being a scientific and a moral activity.
