ABSTRACT
This lecture was given in La Jolla, California for the then forming San Diego Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. Because of his great interest in the formation of the San Diego psychoanalytic community and the efforts of his dear friend Emanuel Lippett, Greenson played a generous role in its development. This lecture was the first of a number he save in San Diego for the benefit of psychoanalysis in that area.
