ABSTRACT
The central argument of this book is that there is a problem of economic growth which has not been recognised or faced, either in theory or in practice. It is a problem about industrial development based on advanced technology, and its social consequences. The clearest indications of the problem have been the consistent failure of the British economy to reach targets set for growth, in spite of improvements in productivity, and high rates of unemployment.
