Introduction

This chapter provides an overview of the reasoning and structure of the book. The concept of collaboration on a film set is introduced and explored as being an essential directorial skill. This chapter also explains how collaboration does not need to come at the expense of a singular directorial vision. Movies are made by people, not just cameras and ideas. The concept of different styles of leadership and communication, as they relate to directing, are also briefly discussed.
