ABSTRACT

Kareem Mortimer is an award-winning filmmaker – a scriptwriter, director and producer. His films include Children of God (2010), which was ground breaking in dealing with LGBT themes in a Caribbean setting; Cargo (2017), which won the Amnesty International Human Rights Award at the Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival; and the short film, Passage (2014), which like Cargo addresses the issue of people smuggling. Mortimer co-runs a film production company and has also written for stage and television. The interview was miraculously recorded in 2016 at an Open University studio in Milton Keynes, with questions being posed in the studio while Mortimer responded patiently on a mobile phone in the Bahamas, where he lives and works. The discussion mainly focused on the creation and making of Passage.
