ABSTRACT
Chapter 8 addresses the practice of EIA for wastewater treatment plants in the United Kingdom and Germany. It consists of three main sections. Section 8.1 describes the wider contexts of the EIA processes for wastewater treatment plants. Section 8.2 outlines the way in which, in practice, the stages in the EIA process are typically performed and the nature of the substantive issues raised in both countries. Section 8.3 illustrates opinions about EIA expressed by the competent authorities. The results for the two countries are compared in Sub-section 8.1.6, Sub-section 8.2.3 and Sub-section 8.3.3. As far as possible, they are set against previous studies on other project types in Section 8.4.
