ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 aims to explain how the particular research focus outlined in Chapter 1 is approached. This chapter is mainly concerned with showing how the hypothesis is to be investigated. The chapter aims to deal extensively with the methodological and theoretical context. This is for the social science framework (Section 2.2), the housing studies context (Section 2.3) as well as for the comparative analysis (Section 2.4). The analysis of housing systems is a relatively under researched area and hence no apology is made for the emphasis given to theory and method. This chapter may prove to be instructive to those interested not only in housing supply issues, but also to those with a broader remit to look at comparative questions and the relationship between empirical and rational approaches.
