ABSTRACT
Leafield School was located within a Local Education Authority that had no written policy on either equal opportunities or multi-cultural education. The Chief Education Officer in addressing a conference said that schools should anticipate ‘the inexorable march of events’ in our society and ‘better equip their pupils for such a future’, but this philosophy did not encourage him to see the benefits of a written policy.
