ABSTRACT
In this book I have attempted to bring together relevant material from diverse sources to create a clear and comprehensive progression of the symphony in America, from the earliest European influences to the present day. Where appropriate I have treated the works of major composers in some detail including analysis. To some degree this reflects personal preference but the results are intended to be objective and proportionate to the artistic standing and achievements of these figures.
