ABSTRACT
1. My chapter title is intended as a convenient shorthand for ‘pleasure and displeasure’. Mostly, I will be talking about pleasure. I do not say that pleasure and displeasure are mirror images of each other in every respect, but for the most part parallel accounts apply to both, with, of course, appropriate reversals of sign. That relation should be assumed as a default.
