ABSTRACT
Before evaluating two significant traditions of IR research in relation to the argument that has been made in chapter 2,I shall provide a brief survey of the abundant IR 'level of analysis' literature 1 . Several authors have discussed levels of analysis, either in independent articles or as byproducts of major empirical research efforts. Where necessary, I shall 'translate' the levels at stake to our levels of explanation in this book.
