ABSTRACT

The question whether there are any fundamental differences in the play preferences of the sexes is both important and difficult to answer. The difficulties arise from two sources. In the first place the time during which women and girls have had full freedom to take part in games and sports is so short that it is difficult to come to any valid conclusions. In the second place, the accepted sex differences are so often due to tradition and not to purely biological reasons, that again it is difficult to differentiate.
