ABSTRACT

The true meaning of play has still to be found, and it is only in recent times that its full significance for the human race is beginning to dawn upon our mental vision. This fact is more or less due to the change in the attitude in regard to man‘s place in the Universe. The old idea that man is a reasoning being as compared with the animal—an instinctive creature—has given place to the modem theory that man has as many instincts as the animals and that these play a large part in his development.
