ABSTRACT
Chapter 4 provides an overview of the primary empirical studies on juvenile defense in delinquency courts and the methodology for the study presented in the monograph. The chapter discusses methodology, findings, and limitations of the prior studies, and it demonstrates how the prior studies frame the methodology of the current research study. The chapter introduces the data collection and analysis process underlying the study. The chapter concludes with the themes and categories that informed the qualitative and quantitative portions of the study.
