ABSTRACT
Chapter 11 discusses the quantitative findings in Chapter 10 in relation to juvenile defense counsel policies. While Chapter 10 presents the numbers, Chapter 11 discusses what the numbers mean to juvenile defense in delinquency court. Chapter 10 looks at the mediated relationships at various contact points in the juvenile justice system and identifies the areas in which strengthened juvenile defense policies may contribute to stronger protections for youth in the juvenile justice system, particularly Black and Latino/a youth. It connects the provision of defense counsel with due process protections for youth throughout the juvenile justice system. The chapter concludes with an in-depth discussion of the limitations of the study. This chapter provides the quantitative support for improvements in policies governing defense counsel.
