Constituents of Happiness [and two related manuscripts, 1806]

Unpublished in De Quincey's lifetime. Holograph manuscripts of the three linked items [A] to [C] are held at The Wordsworth Library, Dove Cottage, Grasmere (MS 1991: 89). A highly inaccurate first publication, with omis sions, alterations and misreadings, can be found in Japp (1877), I, pp. 107-11 (Japp (1890), pp. 75-80; amongst other things Japp misdates A and B by one year, changing the date from 1806 to 1805, and with C omits the date altogether); the manuscripts have not subsequently been published in their entirety.
