ABSTRACT

The Roman Catholics are aggrieved with divers laws since the decease of King William,1 the chief leader of the Revolution; which by authority of Parliament, became as just introduction to the hereditary right of the royal house of Hanover,2 as the Norman conquest, of which nation the Saxons and Welch had precedence, had been with regard to the hereditary right of precedent, royal families in England; and the accession of the family of Bruce, of which the family of Bayeul3 had right of eldership, had been with regard to the hereditary right of precedent royal families in Scotland: an observation which tends to guarantee the public peace of ages to come. Hereditary right was disregarded at the Saxon and Norman conquests; and eldership was disregarded since / the Norman conquest by the immediate heirs of William the Conqueror, and by their successor King Stephen, by virtue of the will of William the Conqueror; and by a kind of election, whereby the introduction of the royal house of Hanover, and their hereditary right, by being descended from the daughter of King James I.4 though there are families that may plead eldership,5 by being descended from the daughter of the son of King James I. is authorized by examples of history and law.
