ABSTRACT

First printed in The Examiner, II, 5 November 1809, pp. 711–12. For an earlier account of the state of tragedy, see Hunt’s Critical Essays, pp. 1–4. Hunt manages a review of Murphy’s Grecian Daughter at Covent Garden (and some comments on tragedy) despite the O. P. riots (see headnote above, p. 107). A brief notice of The Rivals performed by the Drury Lane company at the Lyceum has not been included.
