ABSTRACT
Both Soviet and Western media experts, scholars and journalists have been long debating the criteria and standards for judging what is ‘newsworthy’ in the countries of ‘real socialism’ where, so the theory goes, the very nature of society is the best guarantee for ‘responsible, comprehensive and objective reporting’.
