ABSTRACT

It is important to look at the Strategic Defense Initiative and national security through the widest lens. National security is not a problem at the margins of our lives. Nor do the issues of national security exist in "pragmatic" isolation from society. What is—including the esoterica of national security—emerges from what was. We are what our ancestors made us, just as what we will be reflects their vision. The forms of our behavior, including the doctrines we call strategy, are shaped by those who came before.
