ABSTRACT
All the limitations on civil rights and liberties that had existed during the Duma era were swept away by the February Revolution. The freedom of spoken and written word during the difficult years of war, a freedom that also permitted defeatist propaganda, ate away at the spirit and organization of the army and within eight months led Russia from a state of complete freedom to a state of total slavery.
